Tuna from Spanish Frime SA gains Friend of the Sea seal of approval
Spanish Frime SA has undergone chain of custody audit for tuna from approved Friend of the Sea vessels. Frime's tuna products from Friend of the Sea origin can now carry the Friend of the Sea seal of approval.
Friend of the sea vessels target tuna in areas where the species are not overexploited according to RFMOs stock assessments and with on board observers to verify implementation of sustainable fishing practices.
An international independent certification body assessed Frime's chain of custody against Friend of the Sea strict requirements and asserted the company provided clear information about the origin of the products, including fishing area and methods. The control system allows now to seamlessly distinguish certified and non-certified products through different codes with specific information on the date they’re processed into final goods so complying with the certification's essential conditions.
Family owned Catalan company Frime boasts 70 years experience in the seafood business and is widely known in over 40 countries.
Frime provides the market with a wide range of fresh and chilled products all responding to a growing demand for sustainable seafood specialties, like the fresh tuna steaks. “The association with Friend of the Sea perfectly reflects this commitment to Top Quality”, remarks Salvador Ramon – Director of Frime SA, “and represents an important added value for the seafood products we offer”.
“We’re glad that another major Spanish company has decided to rely on Friend of the Sea”, adds Paolo Bray, Director of Friend of the Sea.
