Top Tips on How to Deal with Cyber Bullies
In the past several years, the Internet has often been the source of breaking scandals, damaging content and negative reviews. A person's online presence can make or break them and companies are even checking prospective employee's Facebook and Twitter feeds for potentially hazardous content before hiring them. With people's lives so publically accessible and cyber bullies rampant and malicious, online reputation management experts JW Maxx Solutions offer tips on how to achieve and maintain a positive online presence.
1. Don't engage with the cyber bully.
The best thing to do when dealing with a cyber-bully is to refrain from engaging with them. By responding directly to allegations and negative content, it adds fuel to the fire and may incite bullies to attack with more force.
2. Immediately report cyber bullying on social media sites and keep reporting.
If the cyber bullying occurs on social media websites, report the infractions as soon as they occur. Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites have a zero-tolerance policy for cyber bullying. Unfortunately, cyber bullying occurs frequently and reports can often go unnoticed. Don't give up and keep reporting any and all comments, posts and messages.
3. Save all damaging posts, comments and messages.
When dealing with a cyber-bully, it is extremely important to take screen shots and save any and all content. For legal purposes, this content could play a major role down the line and it is important to document what has been said.
4. Block any and all communication with the cyber bully.
Cyber bullies typically will post more than just one time. In order to prevent further engagement that can cause mental and emotional harm, it is best to block the aggressor from posting on your social media sites.
"Cyber bullying can happen to anyone," online reputation management expert and CEO of JW Maxx Solutions, Walter Halicki said. "The best thing to do is be proactive and keep track of what people post. This can be done by signing up for Google Alerts."
