The total number of passengers on international flights was 419 thousand in May and increased by 14%. The capacity increase was 7% and the load factor was 82.5% compared to 77.7% in May last year. The number of passengers increased on all markets, but the highest increase was on the market to Iceland, a total of 36 thousand passengers or 33%. The North-Atlantic market was the biggest market in May, accounting for 50% of total passengers. The passenger increase on the via market was 4%. The number of passengers on the home market from Iceland increased by 15% compared to last year. Arrival On-Time-Performance in the route network was 72% compared to 63% in May last year.
The number of passengers on domestic and regional flights were 25 thousand, decreasing by 8% compared to May last year. Flights to Belfast, and Aberdeen stopped mid May 2018, explaining the reduction in the number of passengers. The load factor was 69.2% and increased by 7.2 percentage points compared to last year. The number of sold block hours in charter flights decreased by 12% between years, due to fewer projects than at the same time last year and aircraft maintenance. Freight increased by 19%. The number of sold room nights at the Company's Hotels was up by 31% from last year. The room utilisation was 82.9% compared to 72.8% in May 2018, increased at all of the Company's hotels, both in Reykjavik and across the country.
