MOUNTAIN VIEW, California , Oct. 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Based on its recent analysis of the passive intermodulation (PIM) test equipment market, Frost & Sullivan recognizes Anritsu Corporation (Anritsu) with the 2013 Global Frost & Sullivan Award for New Product Innovation. Strong innovation skills, experience in the wireless test equipment market, and a deep understanding of environmental conditions in field applications have helped establish Anritsu's dominance in the wireless test equipment industry. It leveraged these advantages to introduce the portable MW82119A PIM Master, the industry's first 40 watt battery-operated PIM test analyzer.

"Anritsu is honored to be recognized by Frost & Sullivan for global new product innovation. Our MW82119A PIM Master has become the de facto industry standard for field test solutions addressing one of today's biggest challenges in deploying, installing, and maintaining wireless networks. PIM Master also continues our tradition of developing leading-edge test solutions that meet customer needs, a commitment that is recognized by Frost & Sullivan," said Hirokazu Hashimoto , President of Anritsu Corporation.

Addressing the demand from end users for a self-contained unit, Anritsu launched the completely integrated MW82119A PIM Master, eliminating the need for an external controller. The company also extended its product portfolio to cover 0.3 watt on the low end of the power range, making its tool well-suited for distributed antenna system (DAS) applications.

At 0.9 kg to 12.2 kg (depending on the frequency band), the MW82119A PIM Master is extremely portable, has a small footprint (350 mm x 314 mm x 152 mm) and a long battery life. The portability factor assumes greater significance with the growing importance of remote radio heads (RRHs), which move the radio to the top of the tower, thereby requiring customers to perform PIM testing at the top of the tower.

"The significant reduction in size and weight of the device is a commendable achievement in itself but is even more impressive when considered in light of the fact that it is a high-power solution," said Frost & Sullivan Industry Director Jessy Cavazos . "The MW82119A PIM Master undoubtedly places Anritsu in a superior position in the competitive landscape of the portable field PIM test industry."

The first PIM Master revolutionized the PIM test equipment market by introducing distance-to-PIMâ„¢ (DTP) technology, which is now the de facto standard. The MW82119A PIM Master leverages this technology to help locate the exact position from where PIM problems arise, and aptly denote whether the problems have been created within the tower or outside the antenna system. The MW82119A PIM Master unit features a large screen, easy-to-hit buttons, and a daylight viewing mode, facilitating the use of the unit at the top of the tower.

In addition to DTP, Anritsu added PIM versus Time mode in the MW82119A PIM Master, which is useful when field personnel are ensuring that the site meets dynamic PIM requirements. Another application, the Line Sweep Tool (LST), allows field technicians to generate a single, unified report for the operator. This, combined with the shared conventions of the unit's user interface and the company's other handheld wireless test equipment, translates to significant time-savings. LST also overlays DTP results, enabling before-and-after comparisons and performance analysis of the different branches of a DAS.

The company has also extended its service options to its PIM product line, thereby allowing the customer to reap maximum return on investment on Anritsu's PIM test equipment.

"Anritsu's products are highly reliable and are a result of a thorough manufacturing process that includes shock, vibration, and drop testing as well as thermocycling," noted Cavazos. "In addition, the batteries and charging systems that customers have purchased for their other Anritsu wireless test gear can be reused with the MW82119A PIM Master, maximizing customers' investments in Anritsu equipment."
