Approved by the State Council as the communication hub of southwest China, Chengdu occupies the fourth, ranking, after Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, concerning the research centers of communication technology and equipment, allowing the city to play a leading role among the central and western regions of China. Top universities and colleges, such as Electronic Science and Technology of China contribute a huge talent pool; more than 90% of the mobile internet companies and teams in Chengdu settle in the software parks and incubation centers of CDHT, making it a high-density area for the industry. An abundance of national service platforms and local information service suppliers including eStore of China Telecom, myapp of Tencent, Central Music Platform of China Mobile, and others, benefit from upgrades and further development. Also, "made in CDHT" mobile game and mobile payment applications have unique strengths in the market, while a series of local start-ups: Tap4Fun and its Galaxy Empire, and Pinguo Tech and its Camera360, have made a name for themselves.
The mobile internet industry reflects the traditional compositions of telecom operators, equipment suppliers, content providers and service support, and will also extend to other areas of business, finance, logistics, etc. CDHT announced earlier this month the establishment of an 80 million RMB governmental angel investment fund which will primarily support mobile internet start-ups. Applicant enrollment has commenced.
