In Europe's Green Capital Hamburg, Experts are Gathering at the "acqua alta" to Discuss the Impact of Climate Change on Flood Protection

For three days, more than 70 speakers from 13 countries will present research findings and discuss regional and global adaptation strategies. At the exhibition, approximately 70 specialised companies from seven countries will showcase their products, technologies and services in flood and coastal protection, risk and disaster management, as well as hydraulic engineering.

At the exhibition, approximately 70 specialised companies from seven countries will showcase their products, technologies and services in flood and coastal protection, risk and disaster management, as well as hydraulic engineering.

This year, Hamburg offers a special framework for the event, as the European Commission bestowed the title "European Green Capital 2011" on Hamburg to acknowledge the city's commitment to environmental protection. As a constantly growing port and industrial hub, the city has managed to cut CO2 emissions by 15 percent since 1990. Until 2020, emissions are planned to be reduced by 40 percent, and by 2050 even further to 80 percent. Measures to achieve this goal include sustainable business and construction, eco-friendly traffic, nature conservation and sustainable consumption.
