CGTN America Receives 28 Awards in The White House News Photographers Association 2019 'Eyes of History' Video Contest
"We aim to produce the highest-quality video journalism for audiences around the world," said Ma Jing , CGTN America's Director General. "These results demonstrate that commitment. We couldn't be prouder of our videographers, video editors and digital producers."
CGTN America Chief Photographer, Andrew Smith , earned one of the competitions' two top honors—Video Editor of the Year. Judges praised Smith's editing for a sports story he shot in Jackson Hole , but also paid tribute to his skill on a wide range of assignments. "We voted unanimously for Andrew Smith ," said Judge Katie Barry . "From the ear to the eye, all senses were flawlessly covered. As a viewer, you felt like you were in the Mississippi grocery store gabbing with the Chinese man with a southern accent or in the white water-rafting boat in Wyoming ."
In photography Smith also won first place in News Special Reports/Series for "Reports from China ." Other CGTN America first place winners include videographer/editors Peter Stolz , Duane Watkins and Kuba Wuls . Dan Criswell won second place for his Political/Campaign photography. Kamran Taherimoghaddam won second place in Magazine Editing. Lisa Chiu won third place in Multimedia for her stop-motion video, "Marking time's passage in a Chinese street."
The network also won five second place awards, eight third place awards and four awards of excellence.
