MELBOURNE, Australia, Jan. 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The founder of education technology business ParentPaperwork says UK schools have a unique opportunity with the forthcoming release of the Government's 'Workload Challenge' report and action plan.
The Challenge was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg in late 2014, and asked teachers and school administrators to contribute ideas via an online submission process about how to reduce the overwhelming workload experienced by many teachers throughout the UK.
David Eedle says:
"In a sign of just how much school staff have taken this to heart, over 20,000 teachers have filled out an online survey contributing more than 50,000 examples and suggestions. It's a remarkable outpouring from the professionals we trust to educate our children."
"There is no question that the concerns expressed by teachers are valid. Recent surveys from both the National Union of Teachers and the Department of Education have consistently shown workload is a considerable concern for teachers, with some working up to 60 hours per week, and that's on the increase."
"The Government's action plan is a fantastic opportunity to discuss a range of ways schools and the Government can implement new systems and processes. Schools at times are seen as conservative when introducing new technologies such as learning management and student management systems, but I'd urge school leaders to take the time to research the benefits of today's technologies and how they can significantly lighten the load for teachers and school administrators."
The National Union of Teachers has welcomed the survey, and called for urgent change, saying workload is driving many teachers to consider leaving the profession. The Government says all the survey responses have been read and promised the report will be delivered in a few weeks and the action plan compiled in conjunction with an industry panel.
