Masuri is at the forefront of cricket helmet safety. Founded in Cape town by Jon Hardy in 1987, his innovative steel grills were worn by Dean Jones, Geoff Marsh and David Boon during Australia's successful 1989 Ashes campaign. The Masuri grills quickly became the international standard as Jon's contacts from his playing days at Western Province and Somerset gave him the opportunity to showcase his design to the game's elite players. Nowadays it is unthinkable that a batsman would face up to a fast bowler without a helmet; especially with the riskier shot selection brought about by Twenty20 cricket.
"As a batsman, cricket helmet design has always been a passion of mine," says Jon. "In the late 1980s I didn't feel that cricket helmets were offering sufficient protection to batsmen, so I developed the Masuri helmet with a steel grill, that was safer lighter and offered better visibility. I'm delighted to have been a part of the improvement in safety standards and am constantly working to keep Masuri as the player's choice."
Masuri is always looking to improve the safety and protection of players. The recent fund raising will facilitate this and has also welcomed Ian Jamieson as Masuri's new Chairman. Ian is also a Non-Executive Director at The Oval.
"I look forward to being a part of Masuri going forward," says Ian. "Masuri has been the market leader in cricket helmet design since its inception and I'm delighted to become involved at this exciting time, as we strive to find new and innovative ways of improving safety in cricket."
Today, Masuri helmets, which the majority of International Players choose to wear, includes unique safety and comfort features and with the new 2013 Masuri Elite Grill, more protection is afforded to the ear, chin and face whilst maintaining visibility.
Masuri intends to remain at the forefront of cricket helmet design and the funding raised by JHACO will lead to exciting and innovative product designs that will benefit Professional, Club and School cricketers alike.
