MEF, the defining body for Carrier Ethernet, expresses a future vision referred to as the "Third Network", where network services are agile, assured and orchestrated. In this future customers have better control through self-service, connectivity is on-demand and elastic, and business models are pay-as-you-go.

Net Insight's Customer Provisioned Networks (CPN) solution uses Software Defined Networking (SDN) technology to provide these capabilities today. This has been proven by the company's long-term international deployments with service providers such as The Switch. MEF CE 2.0 certification proves that operators can use this solution to build open, standards-based networks, delivering well-defined Carrier Ethernet services.

"During Super Bowl 50 we successfully delivered carrier grade Ethernet services ranging from 50Mbps to 10Gbps with assured performance to a number of major clients," said Scott Beers, chairman and CEO, The Switch. "These services were mission critical to the production of Super Bowl, and were delivered using Net Insight's now MEF certified Nimbra equipment."

An off-the-shelf solution for customer provisioned Carrier Ethernet services allows service providers to aggressively move towards the future described by MEF.

"We are currently carrying out trials on customer-self provisioned Carrier Ethernet services using Net Insight's off-the-shelf CPN solution, on top of the now MEF certified Nimbra equipment," said Scott Hoffmann, CEO, WIN.

"With our CPN solution, customers self-provision MEF certified Carrier Ethernet services in less than 15 seconds," said Martin Karlsson, CTO & vice president product portfolio at Net Insight. "But more importantly, integrated pricing and billing capabilities give network operators new revenue opportunities and innovative business models, such as the pay-as-you-go models envisioned by MEF."
