That's the motto of WBQA, under which the European Championships takes place every two years. Anyone who believes that this is just a banal sausage-grilling contest is very much mistaken. On the grills of the best in their profession, culinary delights are celebrated that make some celebrity chefs look old. Only those who can convince an international expert jury of the appearance, flavour and consistency of their dishes can score here. Five courses with side dishes must be presented according to a strict set of rules. Spareribs, chicken, fish, pork shoulder and beef brisket. The freestyle - a country-specific meal and a dessert, the latter of course barbecued, is assessed separately by the jury and the audience. For this purpose, around 50 barbecue teams from 20 nations turn up the heat, because in addition to the championship honours, there is also a total of €12,000 in prize money up for grabs.
Barbecue Party
Two days between grill and stage. Peer over the shoulders of Europe's best barbecuers, attend numerous performances on the stage or in the event area and indulge yourself with culinary treats. The European Barbecue Championship at HanseLife promises to be a festival for everyone.
The European Barbecue Championship takes place on the 17th and 18th of September from 10:00 until 18:00. Admission costs €9, reduced costs €7.50, and also includes entry to HanseLife.
