Travel to Work Report 2013
The number of people who travel to work in England and Wales has surpassed for the first time. This is a staggering ¹.
The total population of England and Wales increased by +7% in the past decade but the rate of growth in the number of commuters is this at +17%.
This has resulted in the highest ever proportion of the population commuting. According to Census 2011 data, against 41.0% in 2001, an increase of 3.6m people.
So not only are there more of us, there are also more of us commuting to work and at a higher proportion of the total population. This is perhaps a reflection on the current economic climate.
In Part I of the full report, we look at how each Region is affected in England and Wales .
Part II looks at Travel to Work by Method and discovers some significant trends over the past 10 years.
