Broadcast Academics has been talking to Professor Gronn about headteacher recruitment ahead of its Leadership Forum for Teachers at Drapers' Hall in the City of London on September 24, 2014 .

The Government is currently reviewing headteacher recruitment and performance standards, with the help of selected heads and governors.

There will be more advice at the conference for aspiring heads on building strong relationships with governors, and different leadership and management styles. Baroness Jay, former Leader of the House of Lords, will talk about her leadership journey and school heads will advise on the qualities essential for headship.

Chair of the National Governors' Association, Duncan Haworth , will give direction on how to handle headship interviews along with Bath University's Professor Chris James , himself a school governor. Professor James is one of the authors of the recent report "The state of school governing in England 2014", which suggests among other recommendations that 'there needs to be greater emphasis on headteacher/senior staff recruitment to ensure that governing bodies have that very important capability.'

There will also be workshops on how to manage school finances and legal disputes, best marketing strategies for schools and presentation skills for heads.

On reviewing headteachers' leadership, Schools Minister, David Laws , stated:

'We know there is a strong link between school leadership, quality of teaching and outcomes for pupils.'

Heather Fearfield , Co-Founder of Broadcast Academics said: 'With the government's review of standards in headship, we will be looking at school leadership afresh, providing delegates with the latest ideas.'
