Kesko's Board of directors has granted scholarships to talented young athletes and art students for the 25th time. The Kesko scholarships, presented today in Helsinki, were granted to 25 young athletes and 16 art students from different parts of Finland.

 

The total scholarship amount was 41,000 euros and the recipients were chosen on the recommendation of fine arts universities and sports associations. The scholarship recipients are listed in the attachment.

 

One of the scholarship recipients is figure skater Juulia Turkkila, who won the Nordic Championship and took silver in the Finnish Championships last winter. Football player Matias Ojala from AC Oulu is one of the most promising young Finnish talents. Gymnast Maija Leinonen took gold on the bars and silver on the beam in the Nordic Championships in April.

 

The scholarships, awarded yearly since 1988, are part of Kesko's responsible operations aimed at supporting the career of talented young people. Previous scholarship recipients include talents such as snowboarder Peetu Piiroinen, figure skaters Laura Lepistö and Kiira Korpi, Nordic combined skier Anssi Koivuranta, sprinter Visa Hongisto, fashion designer Teemu Muurimäki, film director Zaida Bergroth, and actor Aku Hirviniemi.

 

In 2011, Kesko and its subsidiaries supported various communities and societies by 1.1 million euros.
