Barcelona, the new GOWEX Wireless Smart City
GOWEX gives its free connection services to the second largest city in Spain and the sixth largest in the European Union, with over 5 million inhabitants in its metropolitan area
GOWEX is committed to the WiFi Kiosks project in Barcelona together with the 'Professional Press Sellers Association of Barcelona and the Province' (« Asociación Profesional Vendedores de Prensa de Barcelona y Provincia », APVPBP), a model already working successfully in other cities such as Madrid, Granada, Seville, Bilbao, etc.
Barcelona, 19th February 2014-. The WiFi Kiosks arrived in Barcelona to connect the city on the eve of its great technological meeting: the Mobile World Congress 2014. More than 200 newspaper kiosks in the city have registered at the project, and they will offer free Internet access via WiFi thanks to the agreement reached between GOWEX (GOW-MAB, ALGOW-NYSE Alternext, LGWXY-OTC Market), market leader in creating WiFi Smart Cities, and the APVPBP (Professional Press Sellers Association of Barcelona and the Province).
In this way, GOWEX gives its smart and free connection services to the second largest city in Spain and the sixth largest in the European Union, with over 5 million inhabitants in its metropolitan area and to one of the cities with the most tourism in the country, with over 7 million tourists a year.
The "Barcelona Wi-Fi Kiosks" project will be presented this morning during a ceremony at the kiosk located at the Plaza de Urquinaona, in which the l'Eixample district councillor, Xavier de Gispert, will participate, as well as the president of the APVPBP, Cristina Anés and the GOWEX WiFi Network Development Manager, Santiago Moreno.
WiFi Kiosks
Barcelona joins a project that has been running for some time in other Wireless Smart Cities like Madrid, Granada, Seville, Bilbao, etc. which is reaping excellent results and becoming an attractive connection alternative for residents and tourists. On one hand, Barcelona residents will have over 200 free access points in the city, and on other hand, tourists will not need to activate their data rates, as they will have free WiFi access; a very advantageous point in terms of tourism.
With the development of the 'Barcelona WiFi Kiosks' project, the APVPBP consolidates its commitment to innovation, by adapting to the new information reality and using their knowledge of the urban environment and proximity to the customer. The president of the APVPBP, Cristina Anés, stated, "It's about providing a service to the city and its residents, as well as collaborating in the development of Barcelona as an internationally leading Wireless Smart City".
Meanwhile, Santiago Moreno, the GOWEX Wi-Fi Network Development Manager, noted that "the WiFi Kiosks represent one of our flagship projects, which fit perfectly with Barcelona's traits: an eminently cultural as well as tourist city and a clear benchmark in technological innovation. We are very excited to work with the APVPBP in an initiative that will provide excellent connection coverage for free to residents and tourists."
How to connect to WiFi Kiosks
To access free Internet, users only need to detect and choose the .FREEWiFiGOWEX network with their mobile devices (smartphones, tablets, etc.) by going near one of the Kiosks. Once connected, they will access a validation portal in which they will need to register in order to begin enjoying the service. After completing the registration, they will receive a username and password which they will use to connect to the network as many times as they want and which will also allow them to go online for free in over 80 GOWEX WiFi cities which are distributed worldwide (Paris, San Francisco, Madrid, New York, etc.).
In Barcelona, GOWEX already offers a connection in some restaurant franchises in the city and it enables the network of "City Tour Barcelona" tourist buses to have free WiFi for their passengers during their visits to the city.
Where to connect
The Wi-Fi Newspapers Kiosks integrated in the network are spread out across Barcelona and are clearly signposted (see image attached). To find them, users can consult the WiFi map or download the app for mobiles and tablets which will pick up the different access points and speed-up connection to them.
