EGS involved in building Sports equipment product design - Scanning of the National Soccer players for the Football European Championship
Using computer aided design (CAD) skills, 3D scanners and expert manufacturing knowledge EGS recently has worked to help building equipment that can be used in the sporting environment.

Olympic teams often use the study of athletic body parts to gain competitive advantage throught personalised sports equipment. Past methods of fitout have been laborious and the results was not easily repeatable. There can be a long and boring process of trial and error and wasted material before getting right.
On the occasion of the Football European Championship hosted by Poland and Ukraine in 2012, national players Pirlo, Ibrahimovic, Torres, Shevchenko, Rybery, have been scanned to create a new, sofisticated and better fitout of para-shinc in Carbonium fiber developed by Enrico Campari general manager of Compositi Per Campioni Sas company that serves Italian national team since 1994.
“the main goal of EGS collaboration with Campari” EGS President Gabriele Canella says “has been to develop a reliable and repeatable series of digital procedures that would start with real forms of shins and end with manufactured parts”.
The project
The first step was to accurately scan the athlete in position with Artec EVA a 3D scanner for capturing the details of surface required in each customization. Artec EVA is designed for accurate, close-in work, good for organic shapes such as human bodies, and generates industrial level accuracy results.
The 3D scanner EVA projects a series of patterns onto the object. Based on the deformation of those patterns, it can construct a 3D scan. You will need to scan from multiple directions to get complete coverage. The resulting dataset of this scanning process is a three-dimensional body picture workable by EGS powerful LEIOS software, an integral system with CAD and libraries to all 3D scanning Models.
Once in the CAD system, Boolean operations on the data could be used to enable precise modeling of the fitout, customized perfectly to the athlete’s unique body part shape. Advanced algorithms quickly process the captured information and enable users to export finalized data in a variety of common file formats.
" I have innovated a segment that had not evolved for lack of research. Says Enrico Campari owner and ideator of the para-schin and added “is a true revolution.Technology improves the work. The plaster cast, which forced me to travel around the world and in Europe with delicate instruments, has been replaced by 3D scanner that capture in detail the leg of the player and transfer the data in a file 3D. A mat decisive establish a global presence in foreign markets.
In addittion to soccer national players, also Kayak Australian Olympians turn to 3D scanning technology to create a better “fitout” of kayakers in Olympic canoe slalom
In this direction EGS always at the forefront in offering innovative solutions recognized for its leading 3D knowhow and technology will be exhibit at Euromold 2012 on November 27-30 hall 11/A143 the latest developments in 3D body scanning technology and attendees will be provided with the 3D data of their part scans for their personal use in building a fitting equipment.
