CIVIS Media Prize for Integration
The CIVIS Media Prize for Integration and Cultural Diversity in Europe will be presented on May 16, 2013 by the President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz , at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin . 20 radio and TV Programmes have been nominated for the presentation of prizes of the renowned European media prize. 639 programme contributions from 22 countries in the European Union and Switzerland entered the 2013 competition. An impressive result!
Five nominations for WDR productions
Five nominations go to Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR). There are three nominations for Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR). Two nominations each go to Österreichischer Rundfunk (ORF), Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) and Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb). One nomination each goes to British Broadcasting Coporaion (BBC), Telewizja Polska (TVP), the German-French cultural channel ARTE, Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR), Südwestrundfunk (SWR), Schweizer Rundfunk und Fernsehen (SRF) and SAT.1.
Europe's most important media prize for integration is awarded as a European and German television prize in seven categories, as well as a European radio prize for German language programmes. With the "Young CIVIS Media Prize" there is also an European sponsorship prize, as well as, since 2010, an additional award for journalistic web platforms on the theme of integration and cultural diversity.
In the European Television category, a new prize for magazines and short programmes up to 10 minutes will be awarded for the first time in 2013. Topical short reports, in particular, are able to adress audiences of millions.
The European CIVIS Online Media Prize has already been presented at the ARD-Hauptstadtstudio in Berlin on April 17, 2013. The prize-winner is the multimedia political Rap-Castingshow of UFA Film & TV Produktion: RAPutation. The web presentation is sponsored by the Robert Bosch Stiftung and the Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg. The young website for social networking without Nazis >no-nazi.net< and the online service on immigration society >mediendienst-integration.de< were also nominated.

The jury has already made its decision on the winner of the European sponsorship prize. The >Young CIVIS Media Prize< goes to the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg for the animated shortfilm >bear me< .
Honourable task - Sandra Maischberger as presenter
The official ceremony of the CIVIS Media Prize on May 16, will be presented by the ARD presenter Sandra Maischberger. The prizes will be handed over by the President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz , the Federal German Government's Commissioner for Integration, Minister of State Prof. Dr. Maria Böhmer , the ARD Chairman and Director-General of Norddeutscher Rundfunk, Lutz Marmor , the Deputy Director-General of Westdeutscher Rundfunk, Dr. Eva-Maria Michel , the Director-General of Deutschlandradio, Dr. Willi Steul , the Director-General of Deutsche Welle, Erik Bettermann , and the journalist of sience Ranga Yogeshwar.

The CIVIS Media Prize is organized by the Association of Public Broadcasting Corporations of the Federal Republic of Germany (ARD), represented by Westdeutscher Rundfunk, together with the Freudenberg Foundation. Österreichischer Rundfunk, the Swiss SRG SSR, Deutsche Welle, Slovenian Radio and Television, Deutschlandradio, the German-French culture channel ARTE, 3sat, Phoenix and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) are media partners.
The German Savings Banks Association (DSGV), the European Parliament, the Commissioner of the German Federal Government for Migration, Refugees and Integration, the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), the WDR mediagroup, the Bavaria Film and Bavaria TV production are cooperation partners. The European CIVIS Media Prize is organized by the CIVIS Media Foundation for Integration and Cultural Diversity.
