PRESS RELEASE, 10 JULY 2012
80 kilos of gold were produced in the Laiva mine during June 2012. The month was effected by approximately three days of down time in production due to a previously announced maintenance stop. This means that the production per day of operation was at the same level during May and June.
The work done in connection with the maintenance shutdown has during the beginning of July resulted in an increased throughput in the mills and the availability of the entire plant has been enhanced.
Totally 260 kilos of gold were produced during the second quarter in the Laiva mine in Finland which is double the amount compared to the first quarter when 130 kilos were produced.
The positive trend after the maintenance stop indicates that there is a good chance to reach the target of 5 kg of gold per day or 150 kg per month during the summer 2012, a goal that has been communicated earlier.
When the production level of 5 kg per day has been achieved, the target will be further increased to reach the design capacity of the plant. The current ore reserve amounting to 17.6 million tonnes corresponds to nearly nine years of operation with an average gold content of 1.6 grams gold per tonne. When the plant is in full production this corresponds to an average production of about 8 kg of gold per day during the current planned life of mine.
Additional mineral resources have been detected in the vicinity and as the deposit is still open, the mineral reserves could increase further.
