The Wall: five centuries of painting on a single wall, with the face of Marilyn Monroe

Tallinn / London — In the year of the centenary of Marilyn Monroe's birth, the French-Italian artist Micheline Grisolame presents The Wall, the physical installation of the MARILYN100 project.

MARILYN100 is a conceptual art project: one hundred cyberpaintings that integrate the face of Marilyn Monroe into masterworks of Western painting from 1470 to 1919. Under the title The Breath of Silence, the work traces the progressive opening of mouths in female portraiture, read as a metaphor for women's emancipation through art history. From the composed silence of Renaissance faces to the full breath of modernity, each work marks a step in that slow conquest of voice.

The Wall brings this thesis into a real space. Twenty-five selected works, each 20 × 20 cm in a minimal black frame, are arranged in a 5×5 grid that transforms a single wall into a journey through five centuries. The setup is compact, elegant and designed to suit a range of contexts: museums, galleries, cultural spaces, historic cafés, civic venues.

The experience is accompanied by an audioguide in four languages, accessible via QR code directly from the installation, guiding the viewer through the works, the masters cited, and the conceptual thread of the opening mouths.

The Wall is available for exhibition at selected venues. Hosting and collaboration enquiries can be addressed to the contacts below.

The Wall can be visited online at marilyn100.com/installations.html where you can access the audio guide.

MARILYN100 is an independent art project, not affiliated with the Estate of Marilyn Monroe or any entity holding rights to the actress's name or image. All cyberpaintings are original works by Micheline Grisolame.
