Only a single ticket remained after the fourth leg but the punter managed to get through to the last leg after Times Up won the Jockey Club Rose Bowl in impressive fashion from Chiberta King.
The one remaining unit then went on to Swiss Dream in the final leg but the race proved to be agonising viewing as Nicky Mackay's mount couldn't quite get to long time leader La Fortunata to deny the punter a payout of £896,127.
The rollover of £1,262,152 is the biggest in the history of the bet and tomorrow's total pool is expected to surpass the largest ever pool of £2,308,852 at Haydock Park back in August of last year.
"The totejackpot at Newmarket looks set to smash all records on Friday and hopefully a punter will win a life changing amount and become an instant millionaire," said Betfred boss Fred Done who recently became the new owner of the Totepool.
The current record totejackpot dividend came on 8th March this year when heating engineer Steve Whiteley landed £1,445,671 at Exeter having staked just £2 on the bet.
The totejackpot was last won at Yarmouth on Tuesday 13th September and the bet itself was first launched at Royal Ascot back in 1966.
