BERLIN, 25 May 2015 - YPO (Young Presidents' Organization), the world's premier peer network of chief executives and business leaders, held its annual European event, EuroKonnect, in Berlin where 150 CEO members and prospects engaged with global peers and thought leaders to explore the changing face of Europe.
"The inspiration of the event is the vibrant city of Berlin as well as Germany's economic and political influence in modern Europe. The new Europe also means a continent of complicated geopolicitcal relations between East and West, creating new challenges," says Przemek Gacek, 2015 EuroKonnect Chair, CEO of Grupa Pracuj S.A. and a member of the YPO Poland and EuroStar Chapters. "In these changing times, YPO EuroKonnect seeks to connect chief executive officers with leading regional and global resources to explore the potential of creating and accelerating innovation in Europe."
The event began with a keynote speech by YPO member Alexander Cappello, a Los Angeles-based global entrepreneur who has led several public and private companies over the past 40 years, including Cappello Group, Inc. a global merchant bank whose principals have conducted more than US$155 billion in transactions in 50 countries.
Participants also heard about entrepreneurialism in the region from peer member John Paul Lynch, an American entrepreneur who has been doing business in Poland and across Europe since 1991. In September 2014, John was awarded the highest civilian honor in Poland, the Presidential Order of the Gold Cross from the President of the Republic of Poland, Bronislaw Komorowski, for his contributions to building Poland's free market economy during the past 25 years.
Berlin native Alexander Kudlich from Rocket Internet shared highlights of the spectacular rise of Rocket since 2007 and its ambitious mission to become the world's largest Internet platform outside of the United States and China. Other world-renowned resources included Zurich-based venture capitalist Klaus Hommels, who engaged members in discussions around Europe's digital ecosystem and the impact of technology on business strategy, and holocaust survivor and writer Margot Frielander, who shared her inspirational personal story of resilience.
The conference comes following positive results from the first quarter 2015 YPO Global Pulse survey, which reported that European Union CEOs remained positive about the prospects for their organizations and the wider business environment. For the first time in the survey's history, EU confidence surpassed the global composite and was only marginally below confidence in Asia and the United States.
Each quarter, YPO surveys its network of 22,000 CEOs in more than 125 countries, on questions related to current and expected economic environment affecting their businesses. It is recognized as the only CEO economic sentiment indicator to span the global on a quarterly basis.
